Welcome to the RC Replay Competition

RULES HERE

1-11-00
I have been adding replays as I have time to do them myself, or if someone sends them in. Lets get some more going people!! Ive put up some good replays for all of the Scottish Rally, most of the Vauxhall Rally, most of the Ulster Rally, and a few others. Check them out and try and beat those times! Even if you cant, we need more times, there are unlimited slots to fill!

I have also just updated the Files Page with a neat new mod from Markmod1, which allows all of the A8 (WRC) drivers to now be in the correct cars in the results screens. For example, Colin McRae is now in the Ford Focus. This doesnt add a Focus to the game or let you use the Corolla in A8, but its much nicer seeing the correct cars in the results screen. Its definitely worth the download! Check out the files page to get the detail, and thanks to Mark for his work on it. Sorry it wasnt posted sooner Mark!!

I have just completed my Logitech Formula Force Setup guide, so now you can check it out here.. LWFF Help

I also added a new format to the this replays page, now the rallys are listed by page, and each stage by classes.

Happy New Year everyone!! - Seems the server is back up and running, and I -will be uploading replays and other info probably after the New Year. Hope everyone has a blast!!

One note, I am changing the requirements for replays back to the original physics settings for the time being. We need to have an official vote on this subject, but right now I feel that we should keep the hot stages sites on the same format. If we decide that different physics are necessary for more realistic competition, then we will change again later. All replays will now be grouped together (before patch 4 and after will compete against each other) You must remember to include the Game Code in your replay.txt, and you cannot have the fizpatch=1 in your ral.cfg. (THIS IS IMPERTIVE, YOUR GAME CODE WILL BE CORRUPTED IF YOU HAVE fizpatch=1 ACTIVE, EVEN IF YOU DONT USE ANY OTHER TWEAKS) Use a Semi Colon before fizpatch=1 to comment it out, or remove it completely from the ral.cfg. The code checker knows if the fizpatch is used, and the only way we can really keep people from using what might be considered a cheat is to not use it. This disallows the use of patchstickygrass=0, so we will just have to deal with it for the time being.. Please only refer to the newest rules and notes listed by date. I have updated the rules below to reflect the changes. I hope this will make things less confusing for the competitors. Thanks everyone!

NEW RULE LISTED BELOW - For all replays, you will now need to include your Game Code from the game. To find this code, you go into the game, select Options, Information, then Best Times, then make sure its set for Simulation, Time Trial the right Stage..etc, so you get the right code. At the bottom right of the screen there is a button that will switch what is displayed from Time Difference, to Game Code. Write this code down, then enter it in the Replay.txt that you include in the zip file with the replay. The Replay.txt that is available for download has been updated with a field for it. Make sure you get the right code, or the replay will be invalid.

Now that you have read this, and you can agree to this, the rules for this competition are listed below. Have fun!

Rules

Updated 12-31-99

Firstly, these rules are a general guideline. Of course if you make mistakes, and cut a turn, or bounce off of a wall by accident, you will not be disqualified. I think its pretty easy to tell who made a mistake, and who was trying to gain time by straightening out the turns, or using the walls to gain speed. On some narrow courses, even the best drivers will cut a turn on accident, or hit a wall they didnt intend to. Just be fair with yourself and drive like you want to stay on the road and you will be fine.

1. You must include the Game Code with your Replay. Type it in the replay.txt that is available HERE. (the code will be removed from the replay.txt by me after verifying it, so others dont get your codes). For those of you having trouble finding the game code, in the game you must go to Information, then Best times, find the stage you completed, it will show the time, now use the down arrow to get the cursor to the Time Difference button, and use the Right or Left Arrow keys to change from Time Difference to Game Code, whalla!

2.
You must use the original physics that the game shipped with, and the stickygrass. No fizpatch=1 active in your ral.cfg. Its very important that it is not active, otherwise the game code will be corrupt, and show a cheat, even if you didnt use any physics tweaks, or patchstickygrass=0. Take it out completely, or use a semi colon to comment it out. If your game code shows it was used, even if you didnt make any adjustments, your replay will NOT count!

3. You must have at least 2 wheels on the course at all times! Obvious mistakes, and leaving the course on the outside of a turn is ok, as long as it doesnt set you up or allow you to cut the inside of the next turn. 2 occasions of more than 2 wheels off the course are allowed for obvious mistakes. This will allow you to have a couple of mistakes, but still have a valid replay. If its decided that your 'mistake' was intentional, or you showed no attempt to stay on the designated course, your replay will not be published.
I believe this will keep the competition realistic, since real rally drivers wont cut many turns for fear of puncturing, or damaging the car, at least not with all four wheels! This rule simulates the need to stay on the road.

4. Contact with Fences, guardrails, trees, walls etc.. for the purpose of 'catching' the car becuase you entred the turn too fast, or to maintain speed through a turn is not allowed. Dont ride the walls to gain speed!

5. Scrutineering of your replay will not only be done by me, but also by your fellow racers. I will not have the time to view every replay fully, and its up to you to check your own replays before submitting. Its also imperitive that everyone competiting check the competitors replays for cuts, and anything that seems strange. This works well in GPL, and we should try to stick to the same honor code that is present in that simulation. No public arguments please, this is all done for fun. If you find something that in someone elses replay that doesnt conform to our rules, please notify me by email, and I will take care of it from there.

6. Submission -Use this Replay.txt to categorize your replay, and include it in the zip file with your replay.

Name your replay in the game in this fashion - stage-car-time-initials. For me running the Moon and Star stage in the Subaru it would be - mnssuba30445ml. You can easily change the name of your replay within the game by viewing the replay, then choosing the save as feature to save it over itself with a new name, or to a different slot. If all of the characters arent going to fit into the name slot in the game, use something close in the same fashion. Not naming your replay in the game is the single biggest time consumer for me, since I have to do it. Please do this to save me some time!

Name your zip file in the same manner - stage-car-time-initials, mnssuba30445ml.zip, ex 2 - BLochsuba65033ml.zip for the Black Loch stage in the Subaru by me.

Email your zip file which includes your replay, and the replay.txt HERE
If it bounces, please try again later, it will only hold 1.5megs I believe.

Remember 2 Wheels on Course at all times (You are allowed 2 instances of less than 2 wheels on the course, for mistakes only), review your own replays before submitting please.
