Logitech
Formula Force and
Rally Championship (2000
in some areas)
These
pages dedicated to owners of Rally Championship, and a LWFF
I'm writing this
because I have noticed many complaints about getting 3 axis to work
with the Logitech Wingman Formula Force (referred to as the LWFF from
here out) in Rally Championship (RC from here out) on the High Gear
Rally Championship Forum. In my experiments I have also come up with
some pretty decent settings, which seem to almost completely eliminate
the digital feel of the steering code in RC. I have been quite happy
with the wheels performance in RC, and I hope you gain something from
the following tips and images.
This is written specifically for people who have the LWFF and RC,
but it may be a good guide for other games out there as well. I use
the USB connection for my LWFF, and there may be slight differences
if you use the Serial connection, but I am not aware of any. The non
FF Logitech might be a slight bit different too, but then again, maybe
not!
Lets get to the settings...
1 - Drivers and Direct X - The first
step to getting the right performance and settings with the LWFF is
to get the newest drivers for it. The Wingman
Team website often has the latest drivers and other tweaks,
or you can update the software through the Wingman Software itself
by opening the joystick control panel, and choosing properties for
your LWFF, then hitting the About tab on the applet. This way automatically
checks for the newest software, and I have found is often a better
bet than the Wingman Team site for the newest stuff. DirectX
is another thing that seems to fix a bunch of Controller issues (sometimes
creates them, but not for the LWFF). Ignore the people claiming that
DirectX 7.0 or 7.0a are causing bad framerates, it isn't true. The
only instance this may be happening is if you own a Microsoft Sidewinder
Wheel, and if you do, why are you here?? :)
So, get the newest LWFF Drivers - current drivers are 3.30w/control
panel patch (both available on the Wingman
Team site), and get Direct X 7.0a available from Microsoft.
